Ori and the Blind Forest - Definitive Edition
« on: 04/25/16, 01:53 AM »
Ori's a really awesome platformer type game with jumping and adventure and such. It's getting an update on the 27th with new areas and stuff. Only 4.99 if you have the original.

Highly recommend this game, especially if you're into Metroidvanias. The gameplay, art, and sound direction are all on point.

I've wanted this game for so long, but was sad when I couldn't get it on my PS4. I'll probably just suck it up and get it on Steam when the "Definitive Edition" releases.

I did my first play through with mouse and keyboard, felt pretty smooth. I've got an Xbox controller this time around, so I'll see how that feels. Looking forward to whatever the new zones are. And apparently there are warp points, which will be a nice time saver.

Also, learned the term metroidvania. Neat. Anyone have other recommendations like that/Ori?

Castlevania, Metroid Fusion, Super Metroid

Specifically, any 2D Castlevania that's SotN or later, previous 2D games and 3D ones are fairly linear adventures except CV2 (and why the fuck would you play that). Any Metroid game fits the category, but if more free-roaming exploration is what you're looking for then I'd actually recommend against Fusion, because it's very on-rails compared to the others (it's still pretty fucking good). The Prime Trilogy is REALLY underappreciated.

Outside those? Sonic Adventure comes to mind. Except the Big the Cat parts.

fuck froggy

Does that mean Megaman falls into the same category? Do they even make those anymore? I'm gonna find out.

Largely speaking, no. Mega Man is a platformer, except for Legends which is more of an adventure, and Battle Network which is an RPG. ZX and ZX Advent might fall into the category.

I put Fusion because the SA-X be scary as fuck.
Also Kid Icarus is the same Mrtroidvania type game.
For the record these are all games from the NES and SNES era with a few newer iterations like thr Prime series being on Gamecube and Fusion being on the GBA. Fuck Other M tho.

Also for Megaman Capcom was working on something, it got scrapped, the creator did a kickstarter or someshit for Mighty No. 9 or something like that and that has been on hiatus for a while too.
