I have, but it's been awhile.  So much so that I don't really recall any of the rules and such.  This weekend I'll do some looking though.

I played the d20 adaptation of it, thought it was a pretty neat setting.  I've heard good things about the non-d20 mechanics (and especially for the Seventh Sea game done by the same company), but haven't had a chance to read or play it.
You want to burst them instead of having to stack DP via FoK with Ass!

I'm really having issues getting a grasp of the best ways to build a character. I'll be picking up a rulebook this weekend, but I could use some advice on what to do or not to do.

are you playing the d20 version of it or the d10 version of it?

I recall Dex being really good overall, if making a melee toon.  And Int being your go to stat if a caster type.  Void, though situational, is pretty damn awesome.

I made a courtier who is skilled at lying and getting away with it.

Then I rolled from the heritage tree and picked up a disadvantage that prevents me from lying.

It's going to be a hard game. =x

I've played L5R for about fifty hours this semester, and it's starting to make sense. I think I'm a better RP'er because of the experience.

I also sat down mid-session last night and scripted a program to calculate the probability of making any particular roll in L5R (including exploding dice for 9s and 10s, re-rolling 1s, and bonuses to score. It's my first-ever legit program that serves a purpose, so I feel proud.

By the way, can anyone recommend a good C Compiler?

Visual Studio can compile straight C, and the other C's. Plus it's free!

That's a good starting place, then. :)

I'm trying to figure out how to turn this sucker into an executable file from Python, and it's kicking my ass, thus far. My understanding is that I can use Cython and then stick that into a C compiler to finish the job.

I played LO5R for years with Seule. I'm glad you're enjoying it.
